Brandt Snedeker captured his first PGA Tour title in nearly eight years and earned a last-minute spot in the PGA Championship after winning the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic on Sunday in South Carolina.
Snedeker posted a steady performance throughout the week, carding two rounds of 67 and two 66s for an 18-under-par 266. His final-round 5-under 66 was enough to edge Mark Hubbard by one stroke, marking his 10th career PGA Tour victory.
Now 45, Snedeker had transitioned into a veteran role on tour and is set to serve as captain of the United States team at the Presidents Cup this fall. He had not qualified for a major since the 2021 Open Championship.
However, by winning this alternate event at Dunes Golf and Beach Club—held opposite the Truist Championship—he secured a place in next week’s field at Aronimink Golf Club near Philadelphia.
“It’s been a roller coaster. I feel amazing,” Snedeker said. “I feel so lucky to still be out here doing what I love, to have a chance to win a golf tournament at my age and to pull it off is something super special. I’m just so pumped. I don’t know what else to say.”
Hubbard started the day with a one-stroke lead, while Snedeker was three shots back. Snedeker recorded two birdies and a series of pars through 11 holes before sticking his tee shot on the par-3 12th to within 4 feet of the cup. That sparked a run of four birdies over the next six holes.
Hubbard countered two birdies with a pair of bogeys on the front nine Sunday, then birdied Nos. 12, 13, and 15 to regain the lead, temporarily breaking a tie with Snedeker.
When Snedeker made his only bogey of the day at No. 18, Hubbard held a one-shot advantage. But Hubbard hit an errant tee shot on the par-4 16th and eventually bogeyed, then added another bogey on the final hole.
“Super bummed. I definitely felt like it was going to be my day,” Hubbard said. “I felt like I played really solid all week. I had a few loose shots today overall, but I thought today the course played the toughest by far.”
Beau Hossler (68) and Kevin Roy (69) tied for third at 16 under par. England’s Aaron Rai (71) finished fifth at 15 under. Brooks Koepka, who did not qualify for the signature event at Quail Hollow Club, shot a 70 on Sunday and tied for 11th at 12 under.
