Atlético Mineiro let victory slip away in the dying minutes, drawing 1-1 with Botafogo. After the match, Eduardo Domínguez analyzed the team’s display, acknowledging they played well but once again paid the price for mistakes and lapses in concentration.
“The last two matches have had these characteristics (conceding late goals), and it leaves a taste of defeat. It’s not a defeat, but it feels like one. The team played a good match. The hard part is opening the scoring—we’re managing that, creating chances to extend the lead but failing to convert. We had superiority in the area, and then we conceded a goal from a rebound. It’s regrettable that in key moments we’re paying a heavy price. We can do better,” Domínguez analyzed.

Another Set-Piece Goal Conceded by Atlético
Domínguez also addressed the fact that Atlético conceded another goal from a set-piece situation. The coach stated that the team constantly works on such scenarios in training but noted that different circumstances arise during matches. According to him, the team must continue adjusting and correcting errors to prevent future goals of this kind.
“Today we were without two important players for these situations. Botafogo have two or three dangerous players who can cause problems from a throw-in. The player didn’t even head the ball, it just fell to him for a rebound inside the area. You can work on many things, but some situations depend on where the ball goes. If it had gone another way, the outcome might have been different. But we’re talking about something else, unfortunately. And we’re in this situation. The team played well. If we have a problem with a single situation, we must correct it. We can’t deceive ourselves. This way it seems we’ll get more wins than draws or losses,” the coach said.
