Catalonia is under a weather alert as a new wave of heavy showers and thunderstorms is forecast to sweep across the entire region. In response, the regional government has activated the INUNCAT emergency flood plan at the alert level.

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) predicts that between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, rainfall exceeding 20 liters per square meter in 30 minutes could occur across much of the coastal and pre-coastal areas, central Catalonia, and the eastern Pyrenees. The districts most likely to experience these conditions include Anoia, Bages, Baix Llobregat, Moianès, and Vallès Oriental and Occidental.
According to Meteocat, the morning began with clear skies over most of the autonomous community, but conditions will worsen as the day progresses. “From midday onward, we expect showers accompanied by thunderstorms, locally with hail and strong wind gusts. They will start inland and later reach the coast,” the meteorologists warned.
Civil Protection authorities urge the public to follow official guidance closely amid these extreme weather conditions. They recommend reducing mobility during heavy rainfall, avoiding parking near streams or flood-prone areas, refraining from crossing rivers or flooded zones, and staying away from watercourses, ravines, and prone underground passages.
