On the 95th minute of the match, West Ham thought they had scored from a corner, but forward Pablo Felipe’s arm obstructed goalkeeper David Raya’s ability to reach the ball. The keeper touched it with his gloves but could not clear or catch it. The ball then bounced off William Saliba’s knee to Callum Wilson, who put it into the net.
Referee Chris Kavanagh reviewed the incident with the video assistant, studied the replay, and disallowed the goal for a foul on the goalkeeper, securing Arsenal’s victory.
“It’s a foul. Two fouls. His [Felipe’s] hand is on top of him [Raya], so he can’t move. And he’s pulling him too.”
“He’s wrapping his arm around him. And I’m also sure he’s holding his arm.”
“He’s pulling his arm from behind.”
“One hand is on him, the other is holding his arm. You can’t see it any other way—it’s a foul.”
“If I wrap my arm around you, it holds you. He’s a big lad.”
“Yeah. He’s strong, so you know you can’t move. Right?”
“Yeah,” Scholes said on *The Good, The Bad & The Football* podcast.
“People complain because Arsenal did it all year, but they did it within the rules,” Paul added.
